Description
IGF-1 LR3 (Long Arg3 IGF-1) is a modified form of human insulin-like growth factor 1. Two changes make it bind far less to IGF-binding proteins, so it stays active much longer in cell culture. We supply it in 0.1 mg and 1 mg lyophilized vials.
Chemical identity & storage
| Compound / component | CAS number | Molecular weight | Specification status |
|---|---|---|---|
| IGF-1 LR3 | 946870-92-4 | approximately 9117.6 g/mol | Catalog reference specification |
Storage: Keep sealed lyophilized material cold and protected from light. For long-term storage, keep at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
What IGF-1 LR3 is.
Natural IGF-1 is a 70-residue hormone, made mostly in the liver in response to growth hormone. In the body, binding proteins (IGFBPs) hold most of it, which limits how much is free to act.
IGF-1 LR3 swaps the glutamic acid at position 3 for arginine (the R3) and adds a 13-residue extension at the N-terminus (the Long), for 83 amino acids in all. It was developed mainly as a growth supplement for cell culture, where it is still widely used.

What the research looks at.
Studies use IGF-1 LR3 to examine IGF-1 receptor signalling through the PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathways, and the growth and differentiation of muscle precursor cells (myoblasts). In bioprocessing it serves as a serum-replacement additive in culture media. Because it largely ignores binding proteins, it helps separate receptor effects from binding-protein effects.
Related compounds.
IGF-1 LR3 also comes as a ready-to-use IGF-1 LR3 liquid spray (2 mg per 30 mL). Further up the growth hormone axis are sermorelin, CJC-1295 No DAC and ipamorelin.
Documentation.
Available analytical documentation is organized by compound, strength and format in the COA library. Do not treat a report as lot-specific unless a documented lot match is shown.
Handling.
Until it is opened, store the vial cold and dry, shielded from light. Most labs mix it with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate the solution once it has been reconstituted.
Questions.
What does LR3 mean?
Long is the 13-residue N-terminal extension. R3 is the arginine that replaces glutamic acid at position 3.
How does it differ from IGF-1?
It is longer, at 83 residues against 70, and binds IGF-binding proteins far less, so it stays active longer in experimental systems.
Why are the vials so small?
IGF-1 LR3 is very potent in cell and tissue models, so research quantities are fractions of a milligram.
