Description
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule that blocks nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme found in high amounts in fat tissue. We supply it in 10 mg and 50 mg vials, Available analytical documentation is listed in the COA library.
Chemical identity & storage
| Compound / component | CAS number | Molecular weight | Specification status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5-Amino-1MQ | 42464-96-0 | 286.11 g/mol | Catalog reference; salt form and formula require lot documentation before making a formula claim. |
Storage: Keep sealed lyophilized material cold and protected from light. For long-term storage, keep at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
What 5-Amino-1MQ is.
5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a quinolinium compound, about 159 g/mol as the cation, small enough to cross cell membranes. Researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch found it while screening for selective NNMT inhibitors.
NNMT uses up nicotinamide and the methyl donor SAM. Blocking it is thought to leave cells with more NAD+ and SAM.

What the research looks at.
A 2018 study by Neelakantan and colleagues in Biochemical Pharmacology reported smaller fat cells and lower body weight in mice on a high-fat diet, along with higher NAD+ inside fat cells. Later work has looked at NNMT inhibition in ageing muscle stem cells. All of the data so far is preclinical.
Related compounds.
5-Amino-1MQ also comes as 5-Amino-1MQ capsules (50 mg per capsule). For related research, see NAD+, MOTS-c and SLU-PP-332.
Documentation.
Available analytical documentation is organized by compound, strength and format in the COA library. Do not treat a report as lot-specific unless a documented lot match is shown.
Handling.
Until it is opened, store the vial cold and dry, shielded from light. Most labs mix it with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate the solution once it has been reconstituted.
Questions.
Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide?
No. It is a small molecule, usually supplied as a salt.
What is NNMT?
Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, an enzyme that adds a methyl group to nicotinamide (a form of vitamin B3). Fat tissue has a lot of it.
Vial or capsules?
The vial suits designs built around reconstitution. The capsules suit oral-model designs.
