Description

Epithalon (sometimes Epitalon, or simply AEDG after its sequence) is a lab-made peptide just four amino acids long. We supply it in 10 mg and 50 mg lyophilized vials, available analytical documentation is listed in the COA library.

Chemical identity & storage

Compound / component CAS number Molecular weight Specification status
Epithalon 307297-39-8 390.35 g/mol
Formula: C14H22N4O9

Storage: Keep sealed lyophilized material cold and protected from light. For long-term storage, keep at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

What Epithalon is.

Vladimir Khavinson’s group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology studied epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland, from the 1980s on. Epithalon is the synthetic counterpart they derived from it.

Narrowing the extract down to one defined four-residue sequence made a pure, reproducible compound possible. It belongs to the family of short bioregulator peptides that came out of that institute.

What the research looks at.

Epithalon is best known for a 2003 study by Khavinson and colleagues reporting telomerase activation and longer telomeres in cultured human somatic cells. Other work covers melatonin secretion and circadian rhythm in aged animals, and lifespan in rodents and fruit flies. Most of this comes from one group of institutions, and independent replication is thin.

Documentation.

Available analytical documentation is organized by compound, strength and format in the COA library. Do not treat a report as lot-specific unless a documented lot match is shown.

Handling.

Until it is opened, store the vial cold and dry, shielded from light. Most labs mix it with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate the solution once it has been reconstituted.

Questions.

Epithalon or Epitalon?

Both spellings name the same Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly tetrapeptide.

Is Epithalon the same as epithalamin?

No. Epithalamin is a mixed extract from the pineal gland; Epithalon is the single, defined four-residue peptide made to stand in for it.

Is Epithalon approved for human use?

No. It is sold for laboratory research only.
