Description

Kisspeptin-10 is the last ten amino acids of kisspeptin, the hormone made from the KISS1 gene, and the shortest form that is still fully active. We supply it in 5 mg and 10 mg lyophilized vials, Available analytical documentation is listed in the COA library.

Storage: Keep sealed lyophilized material cold and protected from light. For long-term storage, keep at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

What Kisspeptin-10 is.

KISS1 was first studied in the 1990s as a gene that suppresses metastasis. It was discovered in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and named after the town’s best-known chocolate.

In 2003, two research groups found that mutations in its receptor, GPR54, stop puberty from progressing normally. That showed kisspeptin acts upstream of GnRH release. The full peptide has 54 amino acids; the final ten bind the receptor about as strongly.

What the research looks at.

Kisspeptin-10 is used to study how the hypothalamus drives GnRH neurons and, through them, LH and FSH release from the pituitary. Human physiology research, including work at Imperial College London, has used kisspeptin to examine LH pulsatility. It also appears in research on puberty, fertility and metastasis.

Documentation.

Available analytical documentation is organized by compound, strength and format in the COA library. Do not treat a report as lot-specific unless a documented lot match is shown.

Handling.

Until it is opened, store the vial cold and dry, shielded from light. Most labs mix it with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate the solution once it has been reconstituted.

Questions.

Kisspeptin or kisspeptin-10?

The body makes kisspeptin at several lengths: 54, 14, 13 and 10 residues. The 10-residue form is the smallest that still switches on the receptor.

Where does the name come from?

The KISS1 gene was found in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and named after Hershey’s Kisses.

Is Kisspeptin-10 approved for human use?

No. It is sold for laboratory research only.
