Description
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and the most abundant antioxidant molecule inside human cells. We supply reduced L-glutathione in a 1500 mg lyophilized vial, Available analytical documentation is listed in the COA library.
Chemical identity & storage
| Compound / component | CAS number | Molecular weight | Specification status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reduced glutathione | 70-18-8 | 307.32 g/mol Formula: C10H17N3O6S |

Storage: Keep sealed lyophilized material cold and protected from light. For long-term storage, keep at -20°C or below. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
What glutathione is.
Its structure is unusual. The glutamate links through its side-chain (gamma) carboxyl group instead of the usual alpha position, which shields it from most peptidases.
The cysteine’s thiol group does the chemistry, giving up electrons to neutralise reactive oxygen species. When two glutathione molecules oxidise, they join to form glutathione disulfide (GSSG). The GSH to GSSG ratio is a standard measure of oxidative stress in cells.

What the research looks at.
Glutathione runs through research on oxidative stress, redox signalling and liver detoxification, where glutathione S-transferases attach it to other molecules in phase II conjugation. It is also studied in melanin synthesis, for its effect on which pigment cells produce. In protein chemistry it is a routine reagent for keeping conditions reducing.

Documentation.
Available analytical documentation is organized by compound, strength and format in the COA library. Do not treat a report as lot-specific unless a documented lot match is shown.
Handling.
Until it is opened, store the vial cold and dry, shielded from light. Most labs mix it with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate the solution once it has been reconstituted.
Questions.
What does reduced mean?
It means the thiol group is free, which is the state that does antioxidant work. Oxidised glutathione is written GSSG.
Is glutathione a peptide?
Yes, three amino acids long, though its gamma-glutamyl link makes it an odd one.
Why 1500 mg?
Glutathione is used at far higher masses than signalling peptides, so its vials are larger.
